Next Thursday 20th October is Techies Awards Night, celebrating the best in Swindon and Wiltshire tech.

The finalists have been announced for all categories apart from one… ‘Outstanding contribution to Swindon & Wiltshire Tech’.

NEW for 2022, this award has been introduced to put the spotlight on the individual whose work in the tech sector has made or has the potential to make a significant long-term impact on the community and/or wider society.

There have been three strong nominees submitted for this category and we need your help to decide the winner.

Here’s a little bit about them.

Scott Gulliver, Fluff Software

This year, Scott launched Swindon Software a new networking community for members to share ideas, learn from each other, and be a leading group in the field of software development.

Swindon Software meet every other month, with guest speakers who give a half-hour talk about something software related in their respective fields.

In a short space of time, Swindon Software has grown to a community of around 100 people.

In addition to the meet-ups, a forum has been created called ‘Discord’. A place where members can connect and contribute on an on-going basis.

Lucy Paine, TechSpark

Lucy is Swindon and Wiltshire’s Tech-connector, joining up the dots to help people, businesses and organisations come together to ignite growth for our region.

Lucy has worked on TechSPARK Ecosystem Development in Swindon and Wiltshire for the last 3.5 years and has helped to start lots of new conversations and relationships as a result.

Rod Hebden, New Elements

Rod is the Founder of Swindon Science Festival, the Festival of Tomorrow.

Each year, Festival of Tomorrow shares the latest discoveries, research and developments from a huge variety of organisations and experts from Swindon, the UK and internationally. From revealing how scientists are working to make healthier bread, to UK space ports, to the latest in interactive gaming.

After an inaugural event which attracted 3,300 visitors in 2020, Festival of Tomorrow successfully pivoted its second festival online, and launched a new virtual schools’ programme in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which attracted 13,000 student bookings.

The next Festival of Tomorrow is due to take place in February 2023.
