Meet Techies Finalist – Sasha Bird

By Anita Jaynes on 3 November, 2021

It’s not long until The Business Exchange hosts its annual technology awards for Swindon and Wiltshire, The Techies, on Thursday 4th November.

Ahead of awards night we spoke to Sasha Bird of Calne-based Black Nova Designs, a finalist in the Future Tech Superstar category.

Black Nova specialise in web design, web hosting, computer repair and business support.

At just 17 years of age, Sasha is the youngest member of the Black Nova team. Sasha has been working at Black Nova Designs for four years having started as a work experience student and works in her evenings and at weekends.

Danielle Holmes, Managing Director, Black Nova Designs, said, “Sasha’s great work ethic and attention to detail immediately stood out from the crowd. What’s more, women working in coding is rare, but Sasha has taken to it like a duck to water. Now, she is qualified in HTML and is learning CSS and other coding languages alongside her work as we speak. She is a WordPress superstar who uploads products, pages and edits to customer websites at amazing speed and has produced the Black Nova Designs free tutorials which are available online to help people master their technology.”

Sasha, how does it feel to be a finalist?

I was pleasantly surprised to be selected as a finalist for The Techies 2021 and feel truly honoured to be chosen. I hope it shows other teenage girls that women do code and there’s a place for them in the IT industry too.

I really have to mention the amazing hard work of the team at Black Nova Designs. It’s their training which has enabled me to develop the skills I have today and I’m so pleased to be on this journey with them.
