A night-time charity walk around the streets of Swindon is set to return next year for the 15th time.
Prospect Hospice’s Starlight Walk has become a fixture in the calendar of many local people as they walk the 10km or 15km in memory of loved ones and to help raise vital funds to care for others in the community living with a terminal illness.
Taking place on Saturday 24th June, the circular walk will once again start and finish at Swindon Town Football Club but the route will be new for those taking part. The local charity also welcomes participants to dress up in their finest ‘festival fever’ outfits as we embrace the return of a full summer of activities across the country.
Sheryl Crouch, Head of Income at Prospect Hospice, said, “At our 14th Starlight Walk earlier this year we set the theme ‘back to the 80s’ and our walkers didn’t disappoint. We had some fabulous outfits, and a lot of outrageous hair, so picking the theme for the next one needed to be just as good. For the next Starlight Walk, we’ve devised the ‘festival fever’ theme so think about Glastonbury, cowboy hats, sequins and glitter – we just wouldn’t advise walking 10km or 15km in wellies.
“Dressing up is all part of the fun for many of our walkers but it’s not compulsory. For those that do, we can’t wait to see how they interpret the theme.
“There is, of course, a serious side to why everyone gets together on the night. Many of those taking part have experienced hospice services after we cared for someone they loved at the end of their life. They’ve seen just how important our personalised care is and why fundraising is so important.
“Our Starlight Walk raises a phenomenal amount of critically needed income to care for local people and all the money raised in sponsorship from this event goes directly towards our nursing care; supporting our patients and their families.
“There is a moment along the walk where there’s an opportunity to remember those who are no longer with us but, above all, it’s a night of celebrating life and an opportunity to have fun with friends, family and colleagues.”
Entry to both routes is priced at £15 per person and those booking before 1st April 2023, will receive the early bird discount and pay just £12 for their registration fee.
