Dorothy House Supporter Stories: Steve Vick International

By Anita Jaynes on 20 June, 2023

The Business Exchange is working with Dorothy House Hospice Care to share some of the charity’s amazing supporter relationships.

Here we put the spotlight on Steve Vick International.

Steve Vick International (SVI) is an innovative engineering firm specialising in trenchless renovation and decommissioning of pipes worldwide.

Founded in Bradford on Avon in 1981, the current chairman Steve Vick, saw an opportunity to develop ways of safely sealing off gas mains and services using expanding foam technology under ‘no gas’ conditions.

Since its foundation the company has been at the forefront of developing and manufacturing products and techniques for trenchless repair, renovation, and decommissioning of pipes. Many of the firm’s products are fully transferable to the water industry and nuclear decommissioning sector. In addition, a vital division of the business is its Contract Services arm, whereby a team of qualified technicians can be commissioned to carry out specialist operations in the UK and abroad.

Headquartered at Treenwood Industrial Estate in Bradford on Avon with local depots across the UK, the company employs 97 people.

Steve Vick International is a big supporter of Dorothy House Hospice Care. We met Andy White, Financial Director at SVI to find out more about the relationship.

How long have SVI been supporting the charity?

We have proudly supported the Dorothy House Hospice Care charity for over a decade, and it brings us immense joy to be part of their incredible work. For more than 46 years, this remarkable charity has been making a profound difference in the lives of families within our local community. We wholeheartedly believe in their mission and are dedicated to continuing our support for this invaluable charity.

What is your why for supporting Dorothy House?

Supporting Dorothy House is incredibly meaningful to us and our people because this exceptional charity plays a vital role in supporting families within our local community. We have team members who have had their own family members receive care at Dorothy House, which further strengthens our connection and commitment to this cause. Witnessing first-hand the compassionate care and support provided by Dorothy House has touched us deeply and fuels our passion to stand by their side. We are honoured to work with a charity that has such a positive impact on families during challenging times.

In what ways do you get involved?

Over the years, we have taken part in various challenges, including the Three Peaks Challenge, the annual Christmas Tree collection, and most recently, the Always Here Appeal. The Always Here Appeal was particularly exciting as Dorothy House aimed to raise £500k in just 36 hours, and as a team, we were thrilled to contribute. Through our collective efforts, we successfully raised just under £9,000, which will directly contribute to the growth and enhancement of Dorothy House’s services within the community. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that our fundraising endeavours are making a tangible difference, allowing Dorothy House to continue its invaluable work and provide even more support to individuals and families in need.

Do you know how much you’ve raised in total for Dorothy House over the years?

We are proud to have raised more than £50,000. Our ongoing commitment to supporting the charity has allowed us to make a significant impact on their fundraising efforts. We are grateful for the generosity and support of our team members, customers, and community, as their contributions have added to this impressive total. Knowing that our collective efforts have made a substantial difference in helping Dorothy House continue their vital work brings us great satisfaction and motivates us to continue our fundraising endeavours.

How has fundraising and supporting Dorothy House helped your business?
Fundraising and supporting Dorothy House has been incredibly beneficial for our business in multiple ways. Firstly, it has played a significant role in fostering team building and collaboration among our employees. Working together towards a shared goal, has strengthened our team dynamics and created a sense of camaraderie among our staff members. It has allowed us to come together, not only as colleagues but as a unified force dedicated to making a positive impact on our local community.

Moreover, supporting Dorothy House aligns perfectly with our business strategy of actively engaging in the local community. By partnering with Dorothy House, we have been able to demonstrate our commitment to giving back and supporting causes that truly matter to the people in our area. This alignment has not only enhanced our reputation as a socially responsible business but has also strengthened our connection with the community we serve. It has helped us build meaningful relationships with customers, stakeholders, and other businesses who share similar values.

What’s next for your fundraising efforts? Do you have a target amount you’re looking to raise in the coming year?

In the coming year, we are excited to continue our fundraising efforts for Dorothy House with a target of £10,000.

Are there any exciting developments at SVI that you would like to share?

We are thrilled to share that Steve Vick International is experiencing exciting developments as our business continues to grow. As part of this growth, we are in the process of establishing more office space within the local community. This expansion not only reflects our commitment to meeting the demands of our expanding operations but also brings positive implications for local employment. We have recently taken over some office space at the Old Brewery in Bradford on Avon which is now the new home for our Contract Services team.
