A long-standing Partner at David Owen Chartered Accountants in Wiltshire has retired after an impressive 40-year career in the industry.
David Wiltshire began his career with David Owen in 1978, starting out as an Articled Clerk before becoming a Partner in the business in 1990.
Michael Buckland, Senior Partner at David Owen said, “David has been a huge asset to the firm over the years and will be greatly missed by all the staff. We wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement.”
Reflecting on how the company and the industry have evolved over the years, David explained how the rise of technology and compliance have both influenced the growth of the firm.
He said, “The biggest change has been in IT: the intricacies of technology and the requirement for clients to file returns and documents online. We have therefore expanded our services to meet these evolving client needs. This has driven the growth of our business services team.”
“Another big change that has directly affected the business is compliance. The regulatory framework around accountancy is huge compared to when I started. Our compliance department was created around 12 years ago and since then has grown astronomically. 50% of my time is now spent on compliance measures ensuring that that the services we provide clients meet the high standards set by our governing body (the ICAEW).”
David says that the longevity of his career at David Owen is in no small part due to the great team of staff he has worked with.
He added, “As Michael said when I first joined ‘We only employ nice people’. He is totally right and that is the main reason I’ve stayed so long. I’ve been very lucky to work with such wonderful people, we all get on like a house on fire and I’ll miss them hugely.”
