The team at technology-based accountancy firm Purple Lime have decided not to buy festive presents for their clients this year, instead they are donating ‘gifts’ to a local homeless project.
Purple Lime, which is based at Hartham Park in Corsham, are working with Doorway, the charity drop-in centre for the homeless based in Chippenham. For Christmas they are donating gifts worth around £500 to support those in need over the holiday period.
Hayley Chamberlin at Purple Lime said, “Normally at Christmas we send out gifts like a food hamper to thank our clients for their support throughout the year. However this year we wanted to support a local charity in a practical way, helping them raise awareness of the excellent work they do.”
With a budget of £500 the team have bought:
- £200 towards Rough Sleeper Packs – (includes multiple items such as foil blankets, first aid kit, roll mat)
- £100 towards their weekly food kitchen
- thermal socks
- toothpaste and toothbrushes
- female hygiene products
- lip balms
Jo Kitching, Doorway director, said, “We are so grateful for the support we’ve received from Purple Lime who have donated items for our rough sleeper packs. These packs provide vital support for people who can find themselves on the streets sometimes for a period of weeks before their situation improves.
“Homelessness can happen to anyone at any stage of their lives, and Doorway is there to support those in most need with clothes, showers, laundry, hot food, food take-outs and help with homelessness applications and universal credit applications among other things.”
These gifts are just part of the support the Purple Lime team plan to give to Doorway over the next year. Four staff members have also already committed to taking part in their Sleep Out on Saturday 25th January to Sunday 26th January – with the aim of raising another £500 for the organisation’s work. Jo Kitching said, “Our biennial Sleep Out on 25th January next year is an opportunity to raise some much-needed funds, and for participants to learn a little bit about what it’s like to sleep rough.
“Our vital drop-in sessions run on Mondays 9.30 – 12.30 and Thursdays 12.30-3.30pm in the Salvation Army Hall in Chippenham and donations during those times are very welcome.”
