Swindon and Wiltshire’s Most Inspiring Women 2024 | Sherelyn Cowles

By Nick Batten on 22 March, 2024

To mark International Women’s Day 2024, which takes place every year on 8th March, we’re celebrating some of Swindon and Wiltshire’s most inspiring women.

Through our website and social media channels, we asked our readers which women in our community inspire them and created a list of 20. The list will be printed in our spring magazine and from Friday 1st March, every weekday throughout the month we are profiling and championing each of these fantastic women online and via our social feeds.

Today we put the spotlight on Sherelyn Cowles…

Sherelyn is the Chief Financial Officer of Wiltshire-based Accountancy firm – Gooding Accounts.

Graduating from Wiltshire College and University Centre in 2013, Sherelyn has risen rapidly since beginning her accountancy career as a self-employed practitioner. Joining Gooding Accounts in 2020, she initially led the firm’s Bookkeeping team before being promoted to CFO in early 2023. Sherelyn is currently at the forefront of the firm’s 10-year anniversary Charity Fundraising Challenge which aims to raise £50,000 for local good causes by the end of 2024.

Alongside a six-month sober challenge Sherelyn is training for an eye-watering five ultra-marathons she’ll be running this summer to raise funds for Julia’s House. Sherelyn will be joining a panel of industry experts speaking during this year’s Digital Accountancy Show at Evolution London this April.

Her nomination said, “Sherelyn has taken on the role of CFO at Gooding Accounts in the last 12 months and helped the business to its most successful year to date. All of this whilst bringing up her two children and undertaking constant charity work.

“The new role has seen Sherelyn move out of her comfort zone and undertake various networking and public speaking tasks and despite nerves has continued to flourish. Sometimes certain people are not given the credit or celebration they deserve for all their efforts across many aspects of life and I feel Sherelyn fits the bill of inspiring other women to stand up and be noticed.”

Sherelyn added, “It means a lot to me to have my hard work recognised, I’m incredibly proud to be one of such an amazing group of women!”

Goughs Solicitors are proud sponsors of this feature. Goughs have a strong female team and work with many female business owners across the area. The team are getting behind this feature as it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women in our community.
