In October 2015 Baker Tilly adopted the name RSM, uniting under a common brand with RSM audit, tax and consulting firms in 110 countries across the world. In December 2015 RSM announced a 26 per cent growth in its annual UK revenues with the business continuing to go from strength to strength.
Managing partner for the RSM office in Swindon, Sharon Omer-Kaye is going for continued growth in 2016. The team is expanding to meet the demand of their growing client base, and the firm has just signed a 15-year lease on a new building in Swindon, significantly investing in its future in the area.
Sharon said: “RSM is a partner-led business and is committed to this geographic area. The global rebrand gives us the ability to provide joined up advice internationally to our clients where relevant, whilst still remaining true to our roots, maintaining the core essence of our business and a strong dedication to our local client base.
Sharon continued: “The RSM offering is about being the first choice adviser to the middle market by developing a deep understanding of our clients and their objectives. We’re not here just to do a tax return or a set of accounts, but to build long-term relationships with clients, understanding their needs and supporting them with the best possible advice to help them achieve their personal and business goals.”
The leadership team in Swindon has recently been strengthened with the appointment of a new partner, Elsa Littlewood. Elsa joined in December and specialises in private client tax, advising owner-managed businesses, wealthy families and rural businesses, particularly in the agricultural and international sectors.
Sharon said: “Elsa’s appointment to the senior leadership team is integral to our growth strategy. She brings with her a great deal of experience in areas that we are investing in. We intend to further strengthen our offering to the mid-market and private clients by recruiting the very best people with the best skills and experience.”
The Swindon team comprises of 40 people with active ongoing recruitment. Five new graduates joined the team in 2015 across tax, accounts and advisory and applications are now open for the same level of intake in 2016 as well as experienced hire opportunities. In particular RSM is seeking additional people to join the senior leadership team as part of their growth strategy.
Sharon said: “We are committed to developing future talent and nurturing our team is an important part of RSM culture. We were delighted to announce three internal promotions to manager level in 2015, proving investment and longevity is important to us.”
Alongside Sharon and Elsa is private tax partner Lucie Hammond. Lucie has worked at RSM for five years and has been in the industry for 29 years. Lucie said: ‘What sets us apart at RSM is the breadth and depth of our offering. We are a close knit team with collaboration at the heart. We believe collaboration with our colleagues, our clients and their advisers is the key to providing the best service to our clients and the best environment for our staff.’ The Swindon office is known for its extensive work within rural industries where Sharon, Lucie and Elsa all have many clients.
Lucie specialises in equestrian, bloodstock (racing yards) and diversified rural businesses and Elsa and Sharon have in addition particular strength in agriculture, rural tax and global planning for large estates. All three are members of various industry bodies with Elsa and Lucie being members of the CLA (Country and Land Business Association) county committees for Wiltshire and Herefordshire, respectively.
Other specialist growth sectors for RSM locally, led by Vijay Tanna business services partner in Swindon, include property and construction, recruitment, technology, manufacturing and care homes. Trusts are also a strong area with four people in Swindon who are qualified Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners (STEP), the gold label for trust and estate work.
Focussing on the year ahead, Sharon said: “2016 provides a fantastic opportunity in Swindon for RSM and our clients. We have an unrivalled team of partners and staff, a new statement office on the horizon and an underlying ambition that will take us and our clients to new levels of success.”
