Swindon Energy Forum: The State of the Energy Nation

April 8, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

This event looks behind the numbers to improve our understanding of the key factors which will shape the global energy market over the next 10-20 years.

James Owen, Commercial Director, Public Power Solutions
(Swindon Borough Council)

James will give attendees an understanding of the recent changes within the solar market, how the market works, and the work Public Power Solutions are doing to help the public sector deliver solar projects.

Bruce Davis, Co-Founder, Abundance Investment
Bruce will give an update on how Abundance Investment are working with Swindon Borough Council to finance 5MW of solar energy generation at Common Farm. The investment is a first for the UK with local residents investing alongside the council via a regulated financial product. Democratic finance could provide Swindon Council and local businesses with new sources of capital to finance infrastructure and sustainable economic growth. A great opportunity to learn about this innovative financial model first hand and how Swindon is leading the way.

Paul Trimmer, Former CEO, Shell Energy Europe
The global energy agenda, Europe and UK, impact on businesses & Hinkley Point C – securing the UK’s energy future

Paul Trimmer will highlight the energy forces acting upon Europe in general and the UK in particular to help the audience identify and understand the key challenges which we will face in securing the energy we need and the possible consequences in terms of the competitiveness of UK based businesses, before discussing how each of us can mitigate any negative impacts.
