Three Wiltshire-based businesses have been recognised at this year’s South West Business & Community Awards which took place earlier this month at The Double Tree by Hilton, Swindon.

Jonathan White of Gold Traders won the ‘Male Entrepreneur’ category. Based in Royal Wootton Bassett, Gold Traders helps people get the best value out of their gold, silver and other precious metals quickly and easily online.

Commenting on Jonathan’s win, judges said, “Jon is a pioneer who launched his unique business in his garage in 2008. He invested £10,000 and built the website himself. He has disrupted the industry [generating] £12.3 Million Annual Turnover with 13 Staff. A great example of entrepreneurship!”

Meanwhile, Simon Crisp, Managing Director of Marlborough-based Green Machine picked up the award for ‘Business Leader of The Year.’

An IT recycling company – Green Machine collects unused electrical items, removes all the data, and recycles the parts; leaving customers with more space and a lower carbon footprint.

In their testimonial, judges remarked, “Simon is a unique business leader; He genuinely cares about the wellbeing of his staff. The company culture that Simon has created is a very altruistic one. Under his leadership the company has grown and is making a huge impact nationally! What a great example of authentic leadership!”

Simon added, “I am proud and honoured to have won this award and to be recognised as a business leader across the South West. Green Machine continues to show the way business should be done, helping the planet and the people on it.”

Lastly, Rachael Matwiejczyk Booth, Director of Sales and Marketing for Swindon-based advertising agency Total Guide, won the ‘Networker of The Year Award.’

Judges commented, “Rachael is a prolific and natural networker who has spent the past 20-plus years of connecting businesses in the area. Not just via the business but personally making valuable introductions and always genuinely caring and wanting to help.”

Rachael said, “I feel humbled and honoured to be recognised in this way. It was a very emotional moment for me. When I first arrived in the South West more than 20 years ago, I could not have imagined how friendly and welcoming this region would be. I feel very blessed to be able to work here”

The South West Business & Community Awards are organised by Great British Expos which runs exhibitions across the UK.

This year’s judges included Paul Day, Technical Director of Berkshire-based document management specialist Filestream, and Anita Jaynes, Founder and Director of The Business Exchange.
