National PR award shortlisting for local PR firms

Two of the regions brightest PR firms have been shortlisted for national industry body awards.

Now celebrating its 38th year, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Excellence Awards are well established as the most prestigious awards in the public relations industry, reflecting best practice in communications.

Ben Veal of Second Mountain Communications is one of four finalists in the Independent PR Practitioner of the Year category.

Transform Communications Ltd are shortlisted in the Small PR Consultancy of the Year category whilst the company’s Senior Client Lead Ellen Ridsdale has been included as a finalist for the Outstanding Young Communicator of the Year.

The award winners will be revealed at a special ceremony in London in June.

Ben Veal launched Second Mountain Communications in the wake of the first lockdown. The business specialises in supporting ethical and purpose-driven companies and has worked closely alongside charities including People against Poverty, Somewhere House Somerset, The Charlie Waller Trust and Wiltshire Youth for Christ.

Ben said, “I’d have never dreamed, less than two years ago when I started out as an independent PR consultant, that I would now be a finalist for the national CIPR Excellence Awards; it really is a massive honour and a huge personal achievement.

“Starting a business during a pandemic hasn’t been easy, yet I’d never look back now. I’ve had the privilege of working with great, purpose-driven businesses and charities, helping them to tell their stories and communicate their impact during these uncertain times, and to be recognised by the CIPR’s judges at a national level for this work is truly encouraging.”

Transform Communications is an award-winning content marketing and public relations consultancy which has been in business since 2006. Many of the company’s original clients are still with Transform after 16 successful years.

Veronica Hannon, Managing Director, said, “Awards are a great external accolade for all the hard work we do every day. It’s all too easy to get caught up in working with clients and we sometimes forget to recognise the quality and the calibre of the team that we’re lucky to work with.

“We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for the CIPR Excellence Awards as Small PR Consultancy of the Year. We won the regional award last year but competing with the best of the best nationally is incredible. Our whole business is built on relationships and it’s the power of those relationships that have enabled us to develop so quickly during the previous two years. With new offices, a team that’s tripled in size and a great roster of clients, it’s been a fantastic journey of growth.”

Director Daniel O’Connor added, “We’re delighted that Ellen Ridsdale, who joined us after being made redundant during Covid, has been finalised for the Outstanding Young Communicator of the Year at the CIPR Excellence Awards. Seeing someone grow in their role as quickly as Ellen has is brilliant. Our clients absolutely love working with her and Ellen’s talent far outweighs her young years. A big, big congratulations to her and our fingers will be firmly crossed on the awards night in June.”
