Brightening up Wiltshire’s windows

By Anita Jaynes on November 11, 2014

Local business woman Helen Auburn based in Bradford On Avon has recently set up a stained glass business in the county.

Helen has a BA Honours in Glass and Ceramics from the University of Sunderland and spent her second year on exchange at San Jose State University, California.

In Spring 2012 Helen spend two months working as a stained glass apprentice at Vetrate Artistiche Toscane in Sienna.

Helen said: “Glass as a medium excites me, with the depth of colour, versatility and light emitting qualities that it allows. I have a fascination with tactility. My work encompasses texture that creates within the eye of the beholder the desire to touch. Colour is key. Pattern and repetition are important concepts and the more excessive something is, the better.”

Helen has recently been working on commissions including front door panes and windows.  Cupboards, front doors, internal doors and windows can have stained glass panels fitted and Helen can make garden sculptures with metal frames and free standing framed pieces of glass art. She has also made lampshades and smaller jewellery pieces. Helen is currently enrolled on a metal sculpture course to learn how to weld so that she can frame her pieces with metal.
