Bradford on Avon’s Varn shortlisted for national award

Digital marketing company, Varn, has been shortlisted alongside seven other companies in the UK in the nominations for Best PR and SEO campaign, in The Drum Search Awards 2016. The Drum is the biggest marketing news site in Europe with 11 million online visitors per year.

Up against a swathe of larger companies and London based agencies, Varn, with offices in Newtown in Bradford on Avon, was selected on the strength of a PR campaign that made headlines around the world for their Westbury based client, Paper Bag Co.

The marketing company proposed and coordinated a World Record to make the largest paper shopping bag in the world, which they achieved on September 23 2015 on the grounds of Fitzmaurice Primary School in Bradford on Avon. The bag measured over 73 feet long and over 50 feet wide. It was made to highlight the fact that plastic bags, which faced a 5p tax, could be easily replaced with paper bags that are convenient to recycle. The school children cut the huge bag up after it was measured and made smaller souvenir bags to take home. The world record was reported by the BBC, ITV, and several newspapers and magazines including The Business Exchange Swindon & Wiltshire.

“It is great to be recognised and we are flying the flag for Wiltshire in this industry. We have been trying hard to think of the most creative campaigns that stand out for news worthiness and this is paying off,” said Tom Vaughton, Director of Varn.

The winner will be announced at a black-tie event to be held on June 8 2016 at Marriott Grosvenor Square, London.
