Online directory for independent’s celebrates first anniversary

Local Uncovered, the online directory designed by digital marketing specialist Sam Bertram, is celebrating its first anniversary this week.

Sam, 41, launched the online platform a year ago after moving to Wiltshire with her family and finding it difficult to research the whereabouts of local independent producers and businesses across the county.

As a digital marketing expert, she decided to create her own platform to allow newcomers and visitors to the county to easily find the unique and unusual within the community.

Sam said: “I have been incredibly proud of the positive response to the website and the growing loyal and engaged customer base. It’s been rewarding to be able to use my marketing expertise to raise the profile of my individual members and create connections for them.”

Rachel Buxton of Avebury, was one of the first entrepreneurs to join Local Uncovered. She runs Fioriblu, designing and selling luxury Italian leather products including handbags, gloves and wallets.

Rachel said: “I just really liked the idea and the vision Sam was coming up with. Lots of people have visited our website from Local Uncovered but what’s also impressed me is the fact Sam provides holistic online support. Your page doesn’t just sit there doing nothing with you feeling abandoned.

“She supports the page with social media conversation, and she’s organised social media training events where independent producers can gather, learn new skills and meet each other.”

One of the most recent members is Sally Ballard, who runs Mimo, a business based in the Old Ropeworks, Marlborough selling original and eclectic antique goods and offering a range of courses from digital photography, through to dressmaking and graphic illustration.

Sally said: “This is a new platform for promoting my business and spreading the word. It positions Mimo alongside other unique producers in the county and introduces me, my products and my courses to a wider audience.”

Over the first year Local Uncovered has received 15,000 unique visitors with one in four returning. Feedback from new residents and tourists has been the site is a beautiful clean user-friendly design and great for discovering new things.  The events calendar is also extremely popular. Sam has also received numerous requests from producers nationwide who would like to join up when Local Uncovered comes to their county.

Later this year Local Uncovered will be launched in Hampshire with further areas being considered. Visit the website at: www.localuncovered.com
