Employees at leading independent Wiltshire recruiter 24-7 Staffing have been enjoying a four-day week thanks to a bold move to trial a new way of working.

The Chippenham-based business, which also has offices in Yate and Amesbury, has brought in the change as a way of boosting employee engagement and productivity, and attracting new members to the team.

In an era where work-related stress and burnout have become prevalent, prioritising employee well-being is crucial for fostering a healthy and productive work environment.

After careful consideration and extensive research, the firm decided to trial the four-day work week in which staff are fully paid but work one day less.

At the core of the decision is a genuine concern for the well-being of its employees. A study conducted by think tank Autonomy revealed that excessive work hours and a lack of work-life balance can lead to reduced productivity, increased stress levels, and diminished job satisfaction.

Julian Thompson, Managing Director of 24-7 Staffing, said, “in today’s competitive job market, attracting and retaining talented individuals is vital for an organisation’s growth and success. The implementation of a four-day work week serves as a powerful recruitment tool, showcasing our commitment to providing a supportive and employee-centric work environment.

“A four-day work week empowers our employees to achieve a healthier work-life balance. They can pursue personal interests, spend quality time with loved ones, and engage in activities that contribute to their overall well-being. Striking a better equilibrium between work and personal life rejuvenates our team members, increases job satisfaction, and brings fresh perspectives to the workplace. This harmonious balance leads to improved morale, higher levels of creativity, and a more engaged and dedicated team.”

After successfully implementing the four-day work week for a month, 24-7 Staffing has surpassed its forecasted targets and experienced zero absenteeism among team members. Furthermore, the firm’s consultants have had the opportunity to pursue personal endeavours, contributing to their personal growth and well-being.

Julian continued, “As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in business in 2024, we extend our gratitude and appreciation to our dedicated team. To commemorate this significant milestone and motivate our employees to excel, we have planned an incentive trip to Marbella, Spain. If we achieve our Gross Profit target this year, the entire team will have the opportunity to unwind and celebrate our collective accomplishments.”

He added, “As we look towards the future, we remain committed to fostering a culture that promotes happiness, professional growth, and continued success. Together, we will create an environment where work and personal life coexist harmoniously, empowering our team members to thrive.”
