Wiltshire law firm steps up to sponsor charity 5k run

A team from Bevirs quite literally went the extra mile by taking part in The Mayor’s Charity 5k Run organised by the mayor of Royal Wootton Bassett Ian Ferries.

The event took place last week and was the last event staged by the mayor before his time in office finishes in early May. The aim was to raise funds for the charity Help For Heroes.

Bevirs, one of Wiltshire’s most respected law firms, not only sponsored the men’s trophy for the event but entered a team. It comprised managing partner Stuart McNeil, legal secretaries Sue Archer and Michelle Boewyer and Kevin Woolnough, husband of partner Sonyia Woolnough.

Sonyia Woolnough said: “It was an honour for us to support such a prestigious community event which brings people together, celebrates physical activity and raises money for a good cause. The event was well organised and supported and  included a great cup of tea and a cake!”

Stuart ran a personal best and the team were particularly proud of Michelle’s efforts as she had never competed in any kind of run before.

The mayor Ian Ferries came to Royal Wootton Bassett in 1974 when serving in the RAF where he enjoyed a career for more than 30 years. Now he serves his community.

Ian said: “I chose the charity for three main reasons – my own career in the Air Force, the amazing support given to my nephew Steve who was seriously injured while serving in the Army in Afghanistan and the fact that Royal Wootton Bassett does a lot to support the armed forces which is not often recognised.

“Help For Heroes also provides a terrific programme for those who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.”

Other sponsors included local companies Statehouse Financial Management, ASF Signs, Cannon Travel, Autocolour, Zealonite Web Design and Dream Doors.

Bevirs has been part of the Wiltshire business community for more than 130 years and has offices in the High Street, Royal Wootton Bassett, Swindon and Calne. The team offers a range of legal services for individuals, businesses and families.
