Sam Francome and her team at Hazelwood Beauty are looking forward to February when they will find out if they have a won a major national award.

Hazelwood, which operates from a purpose-built clinic in Sutton Benger near Chippenham, was named Best Large Salon in the South West and Wales in the Professional Beauty Awards regional finals in October.

The team of 11, including therapists and front of house staff, will now go on to find out if they have scooped the top prize for the whole of the UK in the national finals, to be held on Sunday February 24 at the Brewery in London.

Founder of Hazelwood Beauty Sam has entered the Professional Beauty Awards for several years and always made it to the regional final – so she was delighted to have won this year.

“This year with our new property and what we’re creating here, the feedback when we won was just phenomenal,” she said. “It’s a very unusual thing to build a bespoke salon when you’re not a hotel chain or a big brand. To win the regional award has really given us a boost.”

Sam, who trained in the beauty business on leaving school, says it was what she had always wanted to do. She set out as self-employed and worked from rooms in her farmhouse as she raised her family, setting up Hazelwood 15 years ago. Eighteen months ago, she built a bespoke salon in the form of a stylish barn on her land.

The salon uses natural and organic products and prides itself on the caring, individualised service it provides. It offers everything from facial yoga, massage and aromatherapy to manicures, while a team of aesthetic doctors offer dermal fillers and Botox.

Sam said: “I’m so happy people feel confident about the business as a whole, and not just the individual therapists they come to see. They’re really buying into the brand and what we do here. It’s really lovely.”
