Triple nomination for SSGC at Ex-Forces in Business Awards

Swindon-based specialist security provider SSGC Ltd has scored a triple whammy of award nominations at this year’s Ex-Forces in Business Awards.

The awards programme is the world’s largest celebration of ex-military in second careers and recognises the business achievements of ex-military members. It also celebrates employers who support current and former members of the British Armed Forces.

SSGC secured the nomination for ‘Employer of the Year,’ while CEO David Stubbs was nominated for ‘Business Leader of the Year’ and SSGC’s armed forces champion, Keith Horemans, was nominated for ‘Role Model of the Year.’

SSGC, which signed the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) in April 2020, has gone to great lengths to improve the lives of the military community through remobilisation projects.

In 2020, SSGC was deployed to monitor and marshal the Government’s Covid-19 testing sites on behalf of Serco and the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC). It successfully recruited more than 500 fully vetted forces veterans, providing them with long-term employment.

Today, 50 percent of its shares are owned by veterans and throughout the life of the business, SSGC has championed several veterans to embrace their skills and embed themselves into business life regardless of race, gender or disability.

David Stubbs, Chief Executive Officer of SSGC and a military veteran himself, had a distinct vision when he took over the business in 2014. With the development of high-quality bespoke software, David has been instrumental in its rapid growth, achieving 1,500 percent revenue growth year on year.

David said, “We are incredibly proud to be nominated in not just one but three categories for these awards.

“There are hundreds of servicemen and women who leave the armed forces each year and most of them don’t have the easiest transition back to ‘normality.’

“At SSGC, we look past the disability or trauma these individuals may have and embrace and support this rich pool of talent which has been created for employers, underpinned by skills and values that easily transfer into a wide spectrum of roles.

“We are so proud of the strides we have taken to help the military community and are humbled that our efforts are being recognised on prestigious platforms like this.”

Demelza Staples, Managing Director for SSGC, added, “This is a wonderful accomplishment and really showcases what we as a business have achieved in just a few years.

“We are committed to the armed forces community and look forward to taking them on our journey as we continue to expand and grow into the future.”

As well as its commitment to its own staff, SSGC also supports Mission Motorsport as its chosen charity partner, so far donating more than £50,000 to the organisation which works with wounded, injured or sick (WIS) service leavers and veterans.
