Meet the Techies Finalist: Blackmore

By Ben Carey on 10 October, 2022

With the 2022 Techies Awards now under two weeks away, The Business Exchange is sharing some insights into this year’s finalists, in their own words.

Business Name:

Blackmore UK

Award categories:

Best Tech Security

“Blackmore has been nestled on Salisbury Plain, securely and sustainably managing the end-of-life IT assets for our clients for 25 years.

“Our service ensures that the latent data on assets being decommissioned is securely sanitised in a fully auditable and certified process, from collection to completion. Residual value in these assets is then realised by our comprehensive programme of testing and refurbishment to ensure re-use wherever possible, supporting the circular economy and reducing volume of waste going for energy-intensive recycling.

“Permitted and closely monitored by the Environment Agency, we use our expertise to return IT waste to functional condition or supply tested components to industry partners.

“Blackmore also supports our clients’ CSR efforts by operating a zero-to-landfill policy, utilising 100 per cent renewable energy within our processing facility, providing calculations for carbon offsetting, and offering options for redistribution of residual value generated from the re-use of assets to selected charitable causes.

“Blackmore firmly opposes the export of waste electrical equipment to developing nations where the recycling may pose a danger to the individuals involved. We monitor and audit all potential downstream recycling partners to ensure they operate an ethical, environmentally conscious and legally compliant process.

“We’re delighted to find that the Techies judges have shortlisted Blackmore. IT asset disposal has long suffered a lack of appreciation and was typically overlooked for how integral it is to a well-rounded approach to tech security. Making the cut feels like vindication for our message that proper secure disposal of redundant IT assets is a key part of keeping organisations and their client’s data safe.

“An award would be the first real recognition from outside our industry of the significance of Blackmore’s achievements. Being independently judged as Best Tech Security Company of the Year by professionals from other disciplines will hopefully encourage organisations in the region to think about how they handle end of life IT assets, and whether their processes are genuinely safe by using a secure service such as Blackmore.” – James Derrick, Blackmore UK
