Ahead of the inaugural TBE Awards this October, we’ve been chatting to some of the judges to find out more about them.
Today we hear from Debbie Gilbert, Director, Viva Business Support…
What excites you about the TBE Awards?
There are a great range of categories and I love to see local businesses being recognised for the work they do and the challenges they have overcome.
What award are you most looking forward to judging?
For me I want to see as many women as possible entering and putting themselves out there. So it would be great to see entries from women in the leadership category which often is under represented. I also love to read entries from charities and not for profits as they are utterly inspirational.
What do you like about the way TBE does awards?
I am a fan of judging panels as I think it much fairer than voting. Awards that rely on votes are essentially a popularity contest and, in my view, don’t hold much weight as having your entry judged by business experts.
What are you hoping to see from entrants this year?
I want to understand the business, its aim, values and how they care for their customers. And it would be great to see future growth plans. The passion for the industry also needs to be evident.
What makes a standout entry?
An entry must be clear, easy to read and its essential that it crystallises the important points. Including good clear evidence substantiating the claims which are made is vital. Entries which are detailed and have been complied with thought and really demonstrate why that business should win is the ingredient which will make it stand out.
What are you most looking forward to on Awards Night?
Being in a room full of inspirational entrepreneurs and celebrating success- there is nothing better in business than this!
Are there any specific criteria or values you always look for when assessing potential winners?
It’s all about the story, and how they have overcome the challenges and reached their goals. Plus having outstanding customer service along with businesses that give back to others.
How do you think winning a TBE award can impact an individual or organisation in the industry?
Winning an award raises your expert status in your industry, it elevates your profile locally and is a mark of quality for potential clients considering working with you.
