The Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) has announced a new recruitment campaign to expand its board membership. The new members will join the SWLEP board to help drive economic growth in the area, including its £518m programme of capital projects.
The SWLEP’s role is to drive sustainable economic growth in the area by funding projects that create new jobs and business opportunities. Since its inception in 2011, the SWLEP has led the economy in identifying projects that support growth in the area. The new members will add to the strategic experience on the board and support decision-making on projects and activities that will continue to deliver on the strategic objectives of the SWLEP detailed in its Strategic Economic Plan 2016-2026.
The SWLEP is one of 38 LEPs in England and is a voluntary partnership between the Swindon Borough Council, Wiltshire Council and the business community. Its constitution ensures that at least 70% of the board’s members will be from the private sector, including the chair.
John Mortimer, chairman of the SWLEP said, “The SWLEP has a strong board drawn from local businesses, the two councils, the military and the education sector. In this round of recruitment we are looking to broaden the expertise and experience across the table by adding further strategic leadership skills, in addition to expanding our sector experience and geographic representation.
“We are inviting applications from business leaders with board-level experience in their organisations to provide insight and challenge to the SWLEP decision-making. We have an ambitious plan for growth in the economy through to 2026 and want to ensure our board has the skill and experience to lead that effort.”
The partnership between the private and public sector allows for the decisions of the board to be reflective of the views of both sectors, with growth being inclusive and sustainable for the whole economy.
The SWLEP board membership is voluntary; with claimable expenses. This fresh round of board recruitment is for a membership period of three years. Successful candidates will need to make a commitment to dedicate one working day per month to cover regular board meetings and working groups.
To apply email a CV and covering letter to administration@swlep.co.uk by midnight Sunday, June 18 2017. For a better understanding of the SWLEP and the responsibilities of the role a recruitment pack is also available for download on the SWLEP website.
