Swindon’s Wasdell packaging raises the bar

The continued expansion of Swindon-based Wasdell Packaging is providing the company with a strong competitive advantage.  The leading pharmaceutical packaging company is not only able to provide packaging, storage and distribution in-house, it now has the capacity to meet the bulk handling requirements of any major customer.

Wasdell Packaging Group is one of the largest and most experienced contract packaging suppliers to the healthcare, pharmaceutical and veterinary markets in Europe, supplying UK manufacturers and shipping to 47 countries around the world.  Having acquired Qualiti (Burnley) Ltd and Vineham Engineering in 2014, last year Wasdell acquired two new satellite storage and production facilities in Swindon totalling 80,000 sq ft and has plans in place to build new facilitiestotalling 360,000 sq ft in Swindon by 2019.

The company now has a 20,000 pallet storage capacity as well as Home Office Controlled Drugs licences which enable it to import drugs from anywhere in the world.  However Wasdell’s main competitive advantage lies in its ability to package, store and distribute in-house and on a large scale.  As well as minimising the carbon footprint of these processes, this ‘full service’ offers customers great benefits in terms of price and speed of delivery.

CEO Martin Tedham said: ‘We pride ourselves in being flexible and reliable.  We tailor our services to meet differing customer needs and our in-house tooling capabilities allow us to meet pretty much any requirement.  Over the 45 years we have been in the business we have built up a committed workforce with wide-ranging experience.  I am very excited by the progress we are making.’

Wasdell has also been investing heavily in IT systems which now offer customers a real time view of stock and processed orders 24/7, as well as providing sophisticated purchasing and reporting systems.
