A new event to promote the benefits of gaining a higher education qualification is coming to Swindon.  Conceived by eight colleges and universities that provide courses in the Swindon area, Swindon Unifest sets out to show that studying for a degree can open up new opportunities in life and dramatically improve career prospects.

Swindon College, New College, Buckinghamshire New University, The Open University, Bath Spa University, Oxford Brookes University,  University of the West of England and University of Gloucestershire have got together to present a wide range of courses which can be studied in Swindon.

The event is designed to appeal to everyone – from school leavers; people wishing to help their chances of getting into the workplace; or existing workers in Swindon who may want to try something new or top-up their qualifications.

Swindon Unifest is a free, drop in exhibition, open from 2pm to 8pm on Tuesday 21st October, at STEAM. The event will include talks from industry, and presentations on financing and choosing a course. There will also be students on hand to explain what it’s like to be a higher education student in Swindon.

Cllr Garry Perkins, Cabinet Member for the Economy, Regeneration & Skills, says: “Swindon Unifest is the first time all the higher education providers in the Swindon area have collaborated to promote their courses, together under one roof. I’m really encouraged by this new event and we are hoping that it leads to many more Swindon people taking up the opportunity to study for a degree.”

Swindon Borough Council and Forward Swindon are working on a strategy to increase the amount of HE provision in the Borough and improve the take up of higher level qualifications in Swindon.
