Despite ongoing instability within the UK economy, Metric Group – a Swindon-based manufacturing company – is bucking the financial downturn, growing its operations and headcount by more than 20%, after winning 10 tender contracts in succession and driving forward its electric vehicle (EV) charging and payment solutions.

The intelligent parking company has expanded its production, field, customer service and business support teams to a workforce of 127 people, over the past four months. It is now actively recruiting to fill seven additional roles, including three full-stack developers.

In addition to its tender contracts wins, supplying and servicing pay and display parking terminals for local authorities across the country, the manufacturer was also awarded funding by Innovate UK to bring an Integrated Charge and Park Payment Terminal (ICAPPT) to market for EV Payment Solutions, in March this year.

Metric Group, which is headquartered on the Westmead Industrial Estate, puts its success down to a hardworking and dedicated workforce, which includes 15 employees who have each clocked up more than 20 years service.

Celebrating 33 years this month is Head of Solutions Sandy Mace. Sandy explained, “I joined Metric Group straight from college and over the past three decades I’ve enjoyed a fantastic career trajectory, which has led me to become part of the senior leadership team.

“We’re now recruiting for individuals who want to be part of something special – who can grow and learn with us, as we continue to innovative in the parking, transport and electric vehicle charging sectors.”

Recruiting two senior and one junior full-stack developers for its DevOps team, the new appointees will be responsible for designing and developing web-based applications, services and application programming interfaces (APIs) to meet Metric’s evolving cloud solutions, while supporting the company’s quality procedures to meet expectations of product excellence and reliability, as well as meeting industry legislation.

Other job openings include field service engineer, application support engineer and embedded software test engineer.

Sandy concluded, “We understand that now might be a difficult time for people to consider a career move, but at Metric we have taken every step to not only secure the successful future of the business but to ensure all our employees feel supported throughout their career.”
