Swindon College students call for support from local businesses

By Anita Jaynes on 2 November, 2013

Business Students have been set a challenging task to organise an Employer’s Skills Show to provide advice and guidance to students on the requirements to become work ready and to explore the opportunities that exist within different organisations and sectors.

The students have been spilt into groups to contact 40 local businesses across 10 different curriculum sectors and invite them in to be involved in the event.

Andrew Paterson, course lecturer said: “The students will be organising the entire day. They are currently in the planning stages but are very excited to be taking on the assignment. They are working with the Business First department as they have excellent links with employers, as well as other key personnel within the college such as the marketing team. It has been a steep learning curve for the students but they have really responded well to the challenge.”

In a group discussion, the students said: “Employers will have the opportunity to have a free stand at the college to promote their business and get involved with workshops to help students with skills, such as CV writing, interview techniques and much more. We are also hoping to develop some work placement opportunities as a result, to further enhance students work ready skills. We are working really hard to make it a brilliant event and can’t wait!.”

The free Skills Show will take place at the Swindon College North Star Campus on Friday 29th November 2013 9am-4pm and will be the finale to a week celebrating business enterprise.

If any businesses are interested in being involved in the event please email the students at: employersroadshow@live.co.uk
