Art students from Swindon College studying Drawing for Fine Art practice have set up shop in the Brunel Centre to display their work.
The seven week showcase event has been organised by BA Fine Art students Ella May and Beatrice Markopoulou. Ella who has taken the lead role in organising the project will be focusing her displays around the connection and contrast between installation and art and how they link together.
Ella said: “It’s great to show the public our work and we are already learning and changing our displays to get the space exactly how we want it. We are continuing to draw and prepare our work so the unit will develop and expand with art over the coming weeks.”
The work Beatrice has on display at the Brunel concentrates on exploring language and music.
The girls will be joined by post-graduate Jake Stark from the BA Fine Art course and George Ciora who has just finished his MA in the same subject.
Julie Smith, Fine Art Lecturer, says: “Beatrice and Ella have taken an initiative we want to celebrate in the School of Art, to take the ’creative’ act from the College to the Brunel Centre, via an empty shop. It is also good to see one of our post-graduates taking a fundamental role. They are giving the people of Swindon and beyond an opportunity to join in and become involved. This will allow the residency/temporary artist studio to be something that will give individuals and groups the possibility to engage.”
The students will be joined by local guest artists throughout the project. Private viewings are being held every Thursday from 5.30pm.
They are also holding Clothed Life Drawing Events on February 10 and March 10 and Group Critiques on February 17 and March 17.
