Swindon chef Francisco Rodriguez has won the ‘Best Gastronomy’ category at European tourism sustainability awards – the GrINN Awards 2022.

The announcement was aired last week from the World Travel Market in London.

Francisco, who moved to the UK from Spain 10 years ago, was recently appointed Head Chef at The Sun Inn in Lydiard Millicent, where he has brought a new concept to the pub’s menu, a fusion of Spanish and British gastronomies. He stands out for his consciousness when it comes to sourcing local products, helping local businesses and fighting against food waste.

Organised by Quartz Inn Hotels – the first European hotel group to be made up of independent and sustainable properties – the GrINN Awards 2022 reward excellence in European sustainable tourism, with the main objective of promoting sustainable and responsible practices in the sector. Hundreds of accommodations, companies and tourism leaders from 28 European countries have participated in this edition in its 50 categories.

Alexander Zawadzki, the award’s organiser, said, “Our most sincere congratulations to Francisco for all his efforts in creating a more sustainable kitchen. He is undoubtedly an example to follow and we hope that other chefs are encouraged and begin to implement conscious measures in the kitchen, sourcing food locally and avoiding food waste.”
