Swindon and Wiltshire’s Most Inspiring Women 2024 | Gemma Moore

By Nick Batten on 20 March, 2024

To mark International Women’s Day 2024, which takes place every year on 8th March, we’re celebrating some of Swindon and Wiltshire’s most inspiring women.

Through our website and social media channels, we asked our readers which women in our community inspire them and created a list of 20. The list will be printed in our spring magazine and from Friday 1st March, every weekday throughout the month we are profiling and championing each of these fantastic women online and via our social feeds.

Today we put the spotlight on Gemma Moore…

Gemma is the Founder and Director of The Little Pottery Painting Co. Ltd in Royal Wootton Bassett.

In addition to this, she also runs her hairdressing business ‘Gemma Moore – Hair Alchemist’ based in Swindon, where she specialises in cutting and colouring curly hair.

Gemma has been in business since she was 18 years old – having never felt like she fitted within any employed roles. Recently, she received a later life diagnosis of ADHD (as have many other women) which has connected many dots in her life. Despite the struggles that ADHD can lead to, Gemma has worked hard for many years to use her ADHD as an advantage where she can.

She started off owning Sage Hair Salon in Lyneham before selling it on and moving to a premises in Swindon where she is making moves to ensure every woman that enters her salon, feels welcomed, comfortable and confident in her abilities to cut their hair.

After a recent family holiday in late 2023, Gemma came up with the idea to open a pottery painting cafe after a light bulb moment. With support and backing from her entire family and husband, Gemma and her sister Lauren have built and continue to grow the fledgling business together. They have big plans to expand and grow to great heights.

Gemma said, “International Women’s Day is extremely important to me, it’s a time to celebrate women and all they have achieved and to breed empowerment within women!

“I am so honoured to have been nominated as one of the most inspiring women in business. It means so much to me to get recognition after many years of hard work.”

One of her nominations commented, “Gemma has a keen passion for empowering other women, being a massive cheerleader for body positivity and girl power. Rather than creating competition between women, she created benchmarks for others to aspire to.

“Gemma has recently opened the Little Pottery Painting Company in Wootton Bassett after many successful years of owning Sage Hair Salon – normalising re-inventing yourself as a businesswoman.”
