Spotlight on Alison Williams of Kavanaghs the Wiltshire commercial and residential property experts

By Anita Jaynes on 1 August, 2015

Alison Williams is associate director at Kavanaghs Commercial and heads up commercial property agency activities. Alison joined the team in 2014 when then owner, Michael Kavanagh sold the business to Robert House and Henry King. Michael continues to be involved in the firm as their land and development consultant. Alison joined the business to grow and develop the commercial agency department. Kavanaghs has offices in both Melksham and Trowbridge and also provides strong residential sales and lettings departments as part of its offering.

Alison has worked in the commercial property market for over 20 years and is a well-known member of the business community in Wiltshire. She has specialist knowledge of the industrial property market having previously worked for Defence Estates.

At Defence Estates, Alison worked as part of a team responsible for selling sites that had been formally declared surplus to operational requirements. These sites were of large scale – sometimes extending to 30 acres or more and the disposals complex.

In 2006 Alison used the experience she had gained at Defence Estates as a springboard to break into an industry she was really intrigued by. Alison said: “I had always been interested in the industry in and around the M4 corridor and Swindon seemed a perfect location to be based as it’s a great logistics centre.” Alison’s passion for achieving a sale and knowledge of the marketplace, secured her a role at Alder King in Swindon, where she remained for eight years. During her time at Alder King, Alison moved through the ranks, starting as a senior surveyor and moving up to associate level by the time she left.

“I enjoyed my job at Alder King immensely, but always being one to embrace a challenge I was ready for my next step. I wanted to cast my net wider than Swindon, as I saw a land of opportunity across Wiltshire that was vastly untapped and incredibly exciting.” said Alison.

It was this passion that secured Alison’s current role at Kavanaghs. Alison said: “There’s a wealth of industry for the taking in Wiltshire and now being based in the centre of the county I can dabble in it all.

“I have a real energy for the diversity of trade on our doorstep. From the industrial estates in Chippenham, Corsham, Melksham, Devizes and Westbury and the military establishments in Tidworth, Larkhill and Warminster- our county is thriving.”

“It’s great learning about the companies I deal with and the people behind them. I get a real buzz out of their continuous innovation. Where one door closes another one opens, such as the close of some of the traditional pubs and the rise of the micro-brewery.”
