SOGSS appeals for school governor volunteers

By Anita Jaynes on 28 August, 2015

SOGSS Governor’s for Schools, is an education charity formed by the Department of Education. Their remit is to recruit school governor volunteers with transferable business skills. More frequently they are finding schools come forward who are looking for governors with specific business skills such as IT, HR, finance and premises.

SOGSS operates across the country and in Swindon alone there are around 70 school governor vacancies. SOGSS is seeking local businesses who are looking to take part in more CSR / staff volunteering opportunities to consider signing up to be a school governor locally.

Volunteering as a governor builds up your or your employees skills sets and helps ensure that the next generation of employees has the necessary skills to enter the world of work.

Governors are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school, for allocating and controlling budgets, for providing advice and challenging procedures, whilst ensuring every child receives the best possible education.
