Recruitment on the rise according to HR specialists at Monahans

Businesses in Wiltshire are on the up, with a positive trend for recruitment and a slow down in redundancy according to figures from Chartered Accountants Monahans.

The firm is one of only a handful of their size in the country which also offers specialist HR and Health and Safety support and consultancy.  This means that SMEs who may not be in a position to have their own HR staff can access specialist knowledge and advice in a cost-effective and flexible way.

This almost unique position enables them to spot employment trends early on and with an increase in recruitment activity in the region and a marked decrease in redundancy programmes, the future is looking brighter.

Over the past year, Monahans has provided HR support to over 115 businesses of all sizes in the region and has seen an increase of 72% for recruitment project support and a reduction of 45% in redundancy projects.

Peta Fry, HR Director at Monahans, said: “The outlook for our region is looking positive and we’re also seeing an increase in the number of companies who are considering employing apprentices and looking to boost the number of younger staff.

“It’s true we are still suffering from technical skills gaps, particularly in the manufacturing and engineering sectors, however we have seen a number of businesses look at new initiatives to overcome the issues and grow their own workforce.  Mentoring and buddying older employees with younger ones so to share their skills is just one way we’re helping our clients make sure they’re as resilient as possible to be able to cope with future demand.”

As more businesses recognise the value in the service, Monahans has recently appointed Emma Davis as HR Consultant who brings specialist knowledge of many HR areas, including change management, TUPE, recruitment and policy.

Peta continued: “Emma’s knowledge and experience is a great boost to the overall offering and she will be able to provide regional businesses with invaluable advice and guidance.

“Over the past 12 months, the HR service has grown by almost a third and we’ve also introduced a Health and Safety service too.  Our clients were increasingly asking for health and safety advice and so adding the new service was a natural expansion.  Now small businesses can benefit from the knowledge and procedures that normally only large companies would be able to access through specialist staff.”
