As a business owner, you are going to face some difficult times at some point. Making sure that you stay positive and promote a motivating and cheerful work environment for your team will help you ensure success even through the difficult times. Not only this but worrying about things you have no control over rather than seeing the positives is going to help you become a more resilient leader over time.

There are many studies on the effects a positive and progressive environment can have on a business, and it goes without saying that it’s better to have an unbeatable attitude rather than a defeatist one. Here are some tips that business owners have shared about the ways in which they encourage positivity and experience the benefits from this.

Be Realistic
We’re all human and expecting that there are going to ups and downs and that we all make mistakes is a realistic view to have. Sometimes we get too caught up in our expectations and wishing that everything was perfect that we find ourselves losing time worrying, and making too many decisions from an emotional reaction to this. Setting realistic expectations and being able to be level headed about the bad time and mishaps, means you build resilience and can move on positively.

There are many different avenues to take when it comes to supporting each other within a business, whether it is because it’s your legal obligation or not, taking care of your team and encouraging a community that takes care of each other, helps each other and can point each other in the right direction is something that will help the business through difficult times.

Covid has posed a big threat to those who are more vulnerable due to their health, so it’s important that your business looks after your more vulnerable staff accordingly. Make sure you not only provide them with what they need to work from home, but also provide them with support in other areas. There’s this list of resources for disabled adults who need help in their area which may be worth looking into for your employee(s). By providing this positive support, instead of only seeing the negatives, you could make the world of difference. Every employee can benefit from a little help now and then. Whatever you decide to do within your business, you will find positive results if you have great intentions.

Try to Have Fun
All work and no play is never the way to a positive work environment, yes you must stay professional at all times, and yes the work needs to be done, but when you don’t allow time for breaks or you find yourself or your team are more stressed than they need to be then you can’t expect creativity or motivation in abundance. Even if you only find a very short amount of time for ‘fun’ you will be surprised at the difference it can make within the business, processes tend to speed up, and you can feel a change in attitude within a short space of time.

At the end of the day, every business has a unique way of doing things, making sure that everyone is upbeat and your team have everything they need to succeed will ultimately benefit you and your business. So be positive and be aware.
