Nathan Baranowski, Managing Director at Bradford-On-Avon-based tech firm Ojo solutions, recently completed ‘Race to the Stones’ to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
The 100km ultra-marathon invites participants to walk, jog or run from Lewknor in Oxfordshire, to Avebury across The Ridgeway – an ancient route often described as Britain’s oldest road.
Nathan did the challenge as part of Ojo’s support of Wiltshire Air Ambulance through its membership of the charity’s 100 Club.
He completed the race in 20 hours and part walked, part ran the distance.
He said, “I knew of the race and it has been a bucket list item to do an ultra-marathon. I was visiting Wiltshire Air Ambulance and saw a leaflet and thought, why not? So late one winters evening I signed up and then there was no going back. I decided to do it for Wiltshire Air Ambulance as part of our companies 100 Club support. Taking on such an epic challenge it felt important to be doing it for a cause and knowing the pain I was putting myself through would be making a massive difference through the funds I was raising. It is also the sort of thing that keeps you going at two in the morning during the event.”
According to Nathan, training for the event involved a gruelling regime. “I had to start at 5K and get back to ½ marathon,” He explained. “I had never run further than 15 miles before or walked more than 28. I found myself running marathon distances for fun! Over the course of my training (which I started in January) I ran 522 miles in training.”
He added, “The event was absolutely amazing. Going through the night and arriving at the stones at Avebury as the sun rose was an experience that will stick with me for life. Thank you to everyone who generously sponsored my efforts.”
So far, Nathan has raised £4,000 and you can still sponsor him at – https://www.justgiving.com/nath-2-the-stones.
Kenresa Stratford, events co-ordinator at Wiltshire Air Ambulance, said, “We’re very proud of all our participants who took part in Race to the Stones. We’d like to thank them all for their strength, determination and courage and for raising funds to keep our lifesaving service flying.”
Ojo also recently created a new mobile game for Wiltshire Air Ambulance aimed at helping the county’s lifesaving charity attract support in a fun, engaging way.
