Swindon’s National Self Build & Renovation Centre (NSBRC) has been “highly commended” for its performance as an employee-owned business at the UK Employee Ownership Awards in the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ category.
The awards ceremony was held on Monday 27 November at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, Birmingham, where 700 people attended a Gala Dinner hosted by BBC news presenter Martine Croxall. The winner of this year’s ‘Rising Star of the Year’ category was the corporate clothing producer, Rowlinson Knitwear.
The annual awards aims to celebrate “all aspects of employee-ownership” and the judges were apparently “impressed” with the year on year growth NSBRC has seen as well as it’s “continued investment in the facilities at the centre.”
This recognition completes a trio of awards for the Homebuilding Centre Limited, which operates the NSBRC, with the young business also winning Newsquest’s ‘Wiltshire Small Business of the Year’ and Build It Magazine’s ‘Outstanding Contribution to Self-Build’ in 2017.
Harvey Fremlin, managing director of NSBRC, said: “This award goes to show that the model of employee-ownership, with all our team having a genuine stake in the business, makes all the difference. We have been celebrating the NSBRC’s tenth anniversary year in 2017 and to end the year with three special awards is beyond our hopes for the business.
“It’s been a fantastic year all round really, the NSBRC’s busiest since 2008. We all love what we do here, and I believe the team’s passion and dedication to providing a wonderful experience for all our visitors shines through”.
The National Self Build and Renovation Centre (NSBRC) claims to be “unique” as the UK’s only permanent self-build visitor centre. Open 6 days a week (Tues – Sun) all year round it describes itself as the “must-visit” destination for anyone creating their own home.
The NSBRC has “invested significantly” in its conference and meeting spaces and is set to launch a brand new meeting space in 2018.
