The UK’s leading heat pump manufacturer, Daikin, has opened a new Sustainable Home Centre in Calne.
As part of Daikin’s commitment to advancing sustainable home solutions, the launch marked the tenth addition to its Sustainable Home Centres in 2024.
Built to inform homeowners about the advantages of sustainable, low-carbon home heating, the facility is a joint effort of Daikin and Active Plumbing.
With the nation’s momentum shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy, the centre aims to help educate homeowners in the area on the benefits of sustainable, low-carbon, home heating and support anyone considering the transition.
The official launch event ran from 10am to 3pm on Friday 6th September and was open to all, from homeowners to trade professionals.
The hub will serve local customers and installers alike, looking to expand their knowledge and learn about the innovative Daikin products available as we all transition to sustainable heating technologies.
Sarah Gibson, MP for Chippenham attended the event to mark its official opening. She said, “I’m excited to be here today and see this kind of facility available to residents in the Calne constituency. The fact that Daikin and Active Plumbing are prepared to provide the immediate help and training installers need to make the transition from their traditional heating sources to heat pumps and other low-carbon initiatives. Until now, there has been a knowledge gap, and it would not be fair to expect installers to go back to college. I am thrilled to see this facility help provide immediate help and training in the local area.
“Having installed several renewable systems in my own home, including an air source heat pump, I know their effectiveness. It is great to see Daikin challenging the myths about noises and winter performance, as these issues are not true. I hope the centre helps this area to become pioneers and persuade residents to move into the low carbon economy.”
Jon Burtenshaw, Director of Active Plumbing Supplies said, “We are excited to announce our partnership with Daikin for the launch of Calne’s Sustainable Home Centre. The centre aims to promote sustainable heating and air conditioning solutions and equip installers with the necessary knowledge and skills to efficiently and effectively meet the growing demand for net-zero, eco-friendly options”.
Commercial Manager of Heating & Renewables at Daikin UK, Iain Bevan added, “Heat pumps hold immense potential for slashing energy consumption and home bills. Over their 15-year lifespan, transitioning from a fossil fuel boiler to an air source heat pump could yield savings exceeding £3,000 compared to gas boilers, over £6,000 compared to oil, and surpassing £9,000 compared to LPG.
“Our studies reveal that a staggering 68% of homeowners are unaware of the significantly higher energy efficiency of heat pumps over gas boilers.”
