Excalibur Communications are pleased to announce the appointment of Nicky Alberry as Chairman of its Swindon-based mobile, landline & IT solutions business.
Nicky joins CEO James Phipps in the quest to grow Excalibur rapidly into 2014 and beyond by reviewing their business structure, processes, strategies and expansion plans.
Nicky started her career in July 1979 with HSBC where she worked extensively with the Bank’s business client base in Devon, Cornwall and Gloucestershire. In 1991 she was seconded to Great Western Enterprise in Swindon – 20 years later she is still with the company, now known as Business West, as a Director.
She was Chief Executive until March 2005. Following the Group’s restructure she became part time Executive Chairman and remains Chairman of GWE Holdings Limited, one of the two shareholders of Business West.
Nicky is Chair of Influence, Swindon’s Strategic Economic Partnership and Vice Chair of the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). She also sits on the Economy Programme Board and the Employment & Skills Board for Swindon Borough Council as well as being a Board member of the One Swindon Partnership, representing Swindon Business Community.
Outside of work Nicky was a founding member of the Swindon Cares Fund Raising Appeal. The appeal has now raised almost £300,000 for community and voluntary organisations in Swindon and she was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Wiltshire in 2006.
Having known each other for several years, James has worked alongside Nicky on the Swindon Influence Board as well as the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). This combined with Nicky’s broad knowledge base and experience in the South West business community, made her the ideal candidate for the role.
James commented, “Having worked closely with Nicky over a number of years, her work ethic, experience and community involvement is the ideal fit for Excalibur. We are very much on the same page in our approach to running a business and I’m looking forward to what the future holds with Nicky on board.”
Excalibur currently holds the highest levels of partnership with partners Vodafone, Microsoft & BlackBerry, the role will also focus on maximising opportunities for Excalibur with these industry leaders.
Nicky commented ”I’m very much looking forward to joining the Excalibur team, James has created a well respected, reputable brand in Swindon and the surrounding area. I want to help the board move the company further forward to become the leading communications provider in the South-West.”
As well as the new Chairman, Excalibur have employed five graduates through an employment day they held shortly before Christmas at their Swindon offices. The grads will cover various roles from new business development through to telephone account management and be based in Swindon, Bristol & Cardiff. Also new to the team is Khalfan Nassoro who will look after new business in the Cardiff area.
With more expansion plans due in the next quarter and the opening of new offices in both Bristol and Cardiff, 2014 is set to be an exciting year already for the Excalibur brand.
