Meet the YES Member

By Anita Jaynes on 4 September, 2019

YES (Young Entrepreneurs Swindon) is a new networking group for 18-35-year-old entrepreneurs and young professionals living and working in Wiltshire.

Launched this year, the network hosts regular events aimed at bringing like-minded people together in a relaxed setting, to socialise, make new connections and be inspired.

Sponsored by the Swindon & Wiltshire Growth Hub, YES also helps increase its members knowledge of the business support opportunities available locally.

The last YES event was hosted at Swindon’s Hop Kettle Brewery, and Sophie Smith, owner of start-up business, The Grazing Company, provided all of the catering.

We met Sophie to find out more about her and the business.

How did The Grazing Company begin?

At home coming up with ideas for different meals. I started making mini-platters for my partner and I to eat and started doing the same for family and close friends.

I’ve always loved the idea of grazing as a concept, it works well and seems to create a much more social atmosphere with food.

I’ve taken lots of inspiration from some of the countries in the southern hemisphere where grazing is incredibly popular. I believe it won’t be long before its popularity rises in the UK.

How long have you been in business?

Officially since January this year, unofficially for about two years. Friends and family would always ask if I could cater for their events or get togethers.

Who is a typical Grazing Company customer?

Anyone and everyone! Whether you’re planning a wedding, a corporate event or you just fancy a mid-week picnic or a date night treat, there is something that everyone will love. We’ve been surprised by the variety of customers we have.

What sort of produce should people expect?

Lots and lots of cheese, cured meats, an abundance of fresh vegetables, fruits and lots of naughty treats.

What local producers do you work with?

We work with many independent suppliers, from micro bakeries to farm shops within Wiltshire.

What do you love most about your job?

The creativity! Bringing our customer’s visions to life. I love that every graze we do is completely different.

Tell us about the most exciting event you have catered for?

I don’t think I can pick one specific event. Every event is different and has its challenges which can make it exciting. I’m most happy when I see the smiles on people’s faces!

What are your ambitions for The Grazing Company?

Global takeover? I really love what we do and want to spread the grazing word. My goal is to build a team here in the UK and hopefully at some point in Europe.
