2014 was an exciting time for the Malmesbury Town Team and the team is keen to share the results of their work. Rich in historic buildings, tourist attractions, ancient pubs, specialist shops, independent cafes and restaurants, visitors come to Malmesbury from far and wide and the Town Team is set to help make sure Malmesbury continues to thrive and grow. Everyone involved in Malmesbury’s town centre will benefit from the efforts of the Town Team, from retailers to local residents, tourists to businesses – in fact everyone who works, shops, eats or socialises within the ancient walls.
The Malmesbury Town Centre Action Plan and collaborative strategy developed by the Town Team will make the most of the town’s assets and help encourage more visitors to the town. Created, following the most extensive process of research and stakeholder engagement ever completed in Malmesbury, the research included a review of historic reports, shopper surveys, business surveys, face to face interviews, resident catchment analysis, consumer and industry trends reviews and an on-line survey. A wide variety of stakeholders were consulted including employers, leisure operators, businesses, community groups, business groups and event organisers.
Malmesbury has lots of ‘good news’ stories with the research identifying a wealth of opportunities to create even more appeal to the town’s residents, the wider catchment area and visitors.
The varied initiatives which the Malmesbury Town Centre Action Plan will help to deliver over the coming years begins with priorities focused on five key areas; marketing and promotions, customer experience, retail, events and business support.
Implementation of the Malmesbury Town Centre Action Plan alongside other initiatives is an important part of delivering a future vision, which preserves the heritage and quality of life in Malmesbury and creates an environment where businesses, tourism, art and music can thrive and develop.
