After 10 years working in the care sector for a major company, Louisa McNeil had enough of the pressures and changes in working practices which, she felt, weren’t always in the best interests of her clients.
So she has launched her own home care business, Louisa Homecare Ltd, from new offices at the The Enterprise Network’s White Horse Enterprise Centre in Trowbridge, and is celebrating becoming registered with the Care Quality Commission.
“I became totally disillusioned working with the big company; I was supervising other carers but the demands were huge and there were not enough staff to do the work properly. I was losing sight of why I went into the caring profession in the first place,” said Louisa, from Melksham.
At first, Louisa tried to work from home but soon realised she needed a more professional environment, so she started looking for an affordable office for her and her manager Christine Simpson, who also lives in Melksham.
“The White Horse Enterprise Centre is perfect for us,” she said. “As well as a smart office, we can use the excellent training and meeting rooms for staff training and for meeting clients. It really is excellent value for money, which is particularly important when you’re setting up a new business, and I can get free business advice too.
“As well as offering first-class home care services, we will be running a befriending service, so we’re busy recruiting carers who share our aims to be the best in the area. What’s great about the Enterprise Centre is I can expand to a bigger office if I need to, on the same site.
“It’s great that Wiltshire Council has invested in The Enterprise Network’s Enterprise Centres to help start-up businesses like mine get off to a really good start.”
