Local pub firm with big ambitions continues to expand with latest acquisition

Wiltshire-based Family Pubs Ltd has taken over the The Royal Oak at Hawkeridge near Westbury.

The team has been running The Rising Sun in Lacock for the last two years and this will be a sister pub with similar ambitions.

Like the Rising Sun, the Royal Oak has a garden with stunning views of the Westbury White Horse, as well as covered and heated areas for al-fresco dining and drinking across the year.

At the helm will be Head Chef Alex Willson. Alex has 20 years experience working across Bath and Wiltshire, cutting his teeth originally at the famous Hole in the Wall restaurant in Bath.

His skills include French and Italian cuisine to 2AA Rosette Award standard, always using quality seasonal ingredients locally sourced with traditional and modern styles.

Alex said, “I’m excited to be leading the team at the Royal Oak. Especially as many of our suppliers are on our doorstep and like our sister pub the Rising Sun all the ingredients where possible will be sourced within a five-mile radius of the pub.”

The Royal Oak is about to undergo a major refurbishment which includes the redecoration of the interior, an outdoor bar and pizza oven ready for the summer and a purpose-built children’s play area.

It is currently open Wednesday to Sunday and you can enjoy 10% off your bill for food and drink from Wednesday to Friday evening. Alternatively, pop in on a Friday lunchtime and you and a friend can enjoy beer-battered fish and chips for just £20.

Sunday lunch is another option and the pub has already gained quite a reputation for its Sunday roast sharing boards.

Tables get snapped up fast so make sure you plan ahead. Customers can book a table on the pub’s website www.theroyaloakhawkeridge.co.uk or if you have a special event in mind then give them a call on 01373 476902 or email the team on hello@royaloakhawkeridge.co.uk.
