Speak to any industry expert or business leader and they will tell you that a happy workforce is a productive workforce.
And a key influencer on staff morale is having the right business premises.
According to the Commission for Architecture & the Built Environment the workplace is responsible for 24 per cent of job satisfaction and with the manufacturing industry suffering a skills shortage, the hiring and retaining of staff is already a challenge for businesses across the area.
This is recognised by Bath-based commercial property firm HPH Ltd who are supporting the Wiltshire business community with the creation of the new 35-acre Hawke Ridge Business Park.
The £50 million scheme, which will offer businesses state-of-the-art facilities, will bring with it hundreds of vital new jobs to the area.
The business park, located between Trowbridge and Westbury, is just 15 miles from Bath and enjoys excellent road and rail links together with high capacity, high speed broadband availability and strong 4G mobile coverage.
Lindsay Holdoway, managing director at HPH, said the site will provide more than half a million square feet of much-needed, modern space that the region is crying out for.
A survey by the Manufacturing Advisory Scheme, which is part of the UK Government’s Business Growth Service, revealed that 38 per cent of South West small and medium sized manufacturers believe availability and cost of suitable premises has hindered the growth of their business.
Lindsay said: “We are receiving approaches from large businesses planning to relocate to Wiltshire as well as local firms desperate for space to expand.
“Hawke Ridge is one of just a few sites under construction in the region that can accommodate a major national business as well as providing smaller, energy-efficient commercial units for more local occupiers.
“We estimate that the park will attract around 1,000 jobs to the area once fully occupied. This figure is based on the type and size of businesses that have expressed early interest in coming to Hawke Ridge and the space that is available.
“With such a competitive jobs market companies cannot be complacent, and retaining a highly-skilled workforce should play a key part in any property strategy. Few employers can afford to not invest in their people and in turn their workplaces.”
Lindsay added that the park’s location, which is close to large population centres with easy access to the main A350, is proving attractive to employers.
“There are some seven market towns within commuting distance of the park with a combined population of more than 190,000,” he said. “This is set to grow to more than 230,000 over the next decade with the provision of new housing in these towns.
“So businesses that relocate to Hawke Ridge will be able draw on a large pool of skilled local labour.”
