It’s a double celebration for packaging firm GWP Group who are not only clocking up 25 years in business but have recorded their best ever sales performance since the company began.
The company, which has operations in both Cricklade and Salisbury, was set up in 1990 by five directors, four of whom are still with the firm today. Growing steadily over the years the business has weathered two recessions. GWP now employ over 100 staff; have 500+ customers and a turnover of c. £10m. In 2012, GWP saw a significant upturn in sales growth and since then sales have increased by over 10% in each of the last two years. The last 12 month period has seen the best ever sale performance.
David Pedley, CEO of GWP Group, said: “Not only are we celebrating 25 years in business but we are reaching that milestone at a really strong time for the company. I’m absolutely delighted that we are in this position. The other directors and I would like to thank everyone who has been instrumental in our success, customers, staff and suppliers for helping to make us the strong business that we are today”.
The GWP Group is made up of five divisions and manufacturers all forms of industrial packaging including corrugated cardboard products, bespoke protective cases, foam inserts, ESD packaging (electro static discharge) and specialist coated and reusable packaging Correx.
In 2014, GWP invested in a new multi-million pound joint venture by joining with several other like-minded independent box-makers across the UK to form a shared corrugated sheet manufacturing business named CorrBoard UK. The plant opened in August 2014 in Scunthorpe and now ensures a constant supply of good quality raw material for CorrBoard’s partners.
Ian Larrard, director of the Swindon & Wiltshire Initiative, part of Business West said, “I’d like to congratulate the directors and staff of GWP. It’s great news when any business achieves such a milestone but coupled with their strong performance this is a real achievement. It’s testament to the hard work and dedication of all those involved. Back in the 1990s GWP were one of the first packaging firms to embrace inventory management and just in time deliveries and more recently they were instrumental in the setting up of the revolutionary corrugated sheet plant CorrBoard. It’s such forward-thinking and smart initiatives like these that have made GWP Group the strong business that it is today.”
