High street resurgence in Swindon

By Anita Jaynes on 26 February, 2015

The opening of the new Regent Circus development is already starting to make an impact on the Swindon high street. Commercial property agents are reporting greater interest in town centre space with the successful completion of a letting on Groundwell Road in the last ten days.

Commerical property agents Kilpatrick & Co have let Unit 1, Empire House on Groundwell Road.  Agent Stephen Brickell of Kilpatrick & Co said: “We are delighted to have agreed terms of a ten year lease to Pappadams Ltd who will be refurbishing the property and opening a new Indian restaurant in the premises.  We are particularly pleased to have achieved this letting at the asking rent and believe that the resurgence in the leisure sector driven by the new Regent Circus development has greatly aided the local market conditions. Remaining at Empire House is Unit 2, which extends to 932 sq ft and is available by way of a new full repairing and insuring lease at an asking rent of £15,000 per annum exclusive.”

Hopefully this is just the start of buoyant trade in Swindon with further investment in the town centre set to start next year. The Kimmerfields project is a £350 million regeneration plan with major changes being made to Fleming Way, which currently splits the business district in two. The plan is to create an extended town centre where people can move freely and easily between work, retail and social areas.
