Each week we interview a member of the Wiltshire business community and find out more their working life. This week Sara Tye founder and managing director of Redhead PR takes the hot seat and we’ve aptly changed the title feature ‘From AM to PR’ instead of the usual ‘AM to PM’.
What time does your alarm go off?
If we have meetings, it’s 5.30 am. If I’m training, 6.00 am. I rarely sleep beyond 7 am. I like to crack on before others get started – and get first mover advantage.
What’s the first thing you do?
Boil the kettle and start the day with a mug of warm water to cleanse the body. Then I get the children up.
What do you do for lunch?
I’ve always brought my own lunch to work. I reckon this has saved me a house deposit over time. I like to see people over lunch, though – it’s a good time to catch up and get ideas going.
What do you love most about your job?
It’s a lifestyle and that’s why I love it. I work across all industries and across the world. We get involved in events like London Fashion Week, The Queen’s garden party and others in Swindon, where I live.
What’s the worst part of the job?
There isn’t one. I’m happy to do any job that’s needed.
What executive tool/gadget could you not live without?
My iPhone. It’s synced with my computer and I panic if it’s missing for more than five minutes. I try not to be permanently plugged in, but it’s hard.
What do you do after work?
Train, supervise my children’s homework and network. I also speak at events on running a business and the need for great PR.
If you changed direction, what would be your Plan B?
There’s no Plan B. I resolved to be the best in my field globally, so stick to that commitment daily. I do run other businesses and a property portfolio, but make sure my investment in my expertise pays off. My advice is: don’t spread yourself too thinly and don’t keep changing your mind.
