Colleagues from Swindon’s Excalibur Communications braved the winter elements for a sponsored sleep out on Friday 18th January.

Excalibur Communications, which is one of the UKs leading IT and business communications providers, undertook the challenge in support of the Swindon Night Shelter.

For the event 17 members of staff slept in the company car park to raise funds for charity’s new Haven Centre.

The company, which is in its fifth year of supporting Swindon Night Shelter, raised £2,000 which was match funded by Excalibur’s Executive Chairman, James Phipps, via his Younite charity foundation, to make a total of £4,000.

The new Haven Centre opened its doors to homeless clients on Wednesday 2nd January and offers opportunities for visitors to learn skills such as cooking and household management. Basic IT training is also provided and the Centre is able to assist clients in writing CVs, applying for jobs and accessing the benefits system.

Swindon Night Shelter hopes that through the Centre, homeless clients will be able to gain the skills and knowledge they need to find permanent accommodation and employment.

Excalibur CEO, Peter Boucher, said, “We wanted the event to raise awareness of homelessness in Swindon as well as raise money for the Night Shelter which does such fantastic work to support local homeless people.

“Homelessness is sadly rife across the UK and we at Excalibur wanted to do something to help those individuals who have ended up having to sleeping rough.”

Becky Davison from the Swindon Night Shelter added, “We are very grateful for the money raised by the Excalibur Sleep Out for the new Haven Centre.

“As well as providing temporary shelter to homeless people, we aim to assist them back into permanent accommodation and employment. This money will support many people to use the Haven.

“We have no regular funding and rely entirely on the generosity of donors and businesses like Excalibur. We would like to thank everyone who took part.”
