The team at Swindon estate and lettings agent Ashcox & Stone have pledged to raise hundreds of pounds to support the town’s homeless during the festive period.
They are taking a stand at the Old Town Christmas Lights Switch On event on Sunday November 27 from 1pm and donations will go to the Swindon Night Shelter project.
The Night Shelter helps people who are homeless, vulnerable and struggling in the area. Volunteers run a night shelter every Friday night from 9pm – 8am at St Mary’s church hall, Cheney Manor Rd. Guests are offered a hot meal, a chance to shower, wash clothes and a bed for the night.
Fiona Cox, sales and lettings manager of Ashcox & Stone, which is based at Market House, Marlborough Road, Old Town, is a strong supporter of the Christian-based charity.
She said: “We want to support a local charity and we all felt the Swindon Night Shelter does great work for many vulnerable people who often feel invisible or unwanted. So many of us take our homes for granted and there are many in this town who don’t have that kind of sanctuary or any kind of roof over their heads.”
The stall, is being organised by sales negotiator Lee Haynes and will include a tombola and a prize draw. He said: “Volunteers from the Night Shelter will be joining us at the event to tell people about the work which goes on, largely unseen, to help the town’s homeless. We would urge anyone who visits the Old Town Lights Switch-On to come and say hello and perhaps make a donation to those who find many days a challenge, let alone Christmas.”
The Ashcox & Stone team will offer refreshments in return for a donation, a tombola and a prize draw (the draw to be made at the end of the event with winners being informed the following day). Prizes include a round of golf at Broome Manor Golf Course, cinema tickets at Cineworld and a free month’s gym membership and personal training session at the Nuffield Health Gym at Greenbridge.
