Social media is increasingly becoming the way to interact with other local businesses. We met up with the team of volunteers that handle the @SwindonHour Twitter account to find out how their group interacts and why it could be of benefit to your business.
What is SwindonHour?
SwindonHour is the town’s local Twitter Hour. It was set up to help businesses and community organisations in the local area to network, collaborate and recommend.
The account now has almost 700 followers comprising of a mix of local businesses in the Swindon and Wiltshire area, individuals, and employees of organisations in the area and even out of county tweeters.
So, just another networking ‘event’?
The difference here is it’s outside of your working day, it’s free and can be ‘attended’ from the comfort of your own home, the pub, or even whilst on holiday or visiting a restaurant.
How does it work?
Our volunteers: Catherine, Angela, Kathryn, Danielle and Natalie take it in turns to ‘host’ SwindonHour every Thursday each bringing their individual personalities to the mix.
Tweeters need to Include the handle (@SwindonHour) or hashtag (#SwindonHour), between 8 – 9 pm every Thursday, for their messages to be shared, via retweet with the community.
What do you do?
We retweet all posts sent between 8-9 on Thursday’s that include the hashtag #SwindonHour or include the @SwindonHour handle. This shares the message with a wider audience and increases your business’s circulation and reach.
Many users have made new business connections and acquaintances by engaging in #SwindonHour.
Swindon Hour volunteer and owner of Delegate VA Catherine Gladwyn said: “There’s an opportunity to make this really popular. The more people who join us and interact, the more opportunities there are for collaboration and recommendations. For me it’s been really successful, I’ve made business connections and found volunteers for local events.”
What do you need to do?
Find an internet connection, follow @SwindonHour and introduce yourself this Thursday, between 8-9pm – include the hashtag #SwindonHour in all of your tweets.
If you’re already a member, but haven’t yet joined in – why not start this Thursday?
In an age where more and more people use technology as their main source of communication, #SwindonHour provides the perfect networking platform for today’s modern world.
The team have run a few ‘expert’ sessions, ranging from Twitter tips to sports therapy from Danny Clayton. If this is something you’d like to do, then get in touch with the team via DM.
