Embrace Small Business Saturday events this July

By Anita Jaynes on 15 June, 2015

Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign which aims to highlight small business success and encourage consumers to support small businesses in their communities. Although the day itself takes place on the December 5, the campaign has the ambition to change mind-sets and have lasting impact on small businesses all year round.

There are around 5 million small businesses in the UK; making up 99.3% of all business and employing 58% of the private sector workforce. Last year, the campaign saw £550 million spent with small businesses on just one day. Excellent news considering 70p of every pound spent local, stays local.

Alison Edgar, founder of Sales Coaching Solutions, a 2014 Small Biz 100 company is Champion of the Small Business Saturday campaign, helping raise awareness of the initiative locally.

Small Business Saturday isn’t just a retail or high street effort; it supports all and any kinds of small business. In attendance at the events will be Nicky Pasquier, founder/owner of Virtuoso Assistant, another Small Biz 100 winner and champion who has recently relocated her business to Swindon.

Alison is running a series of events to promote the benefits of the Small Business Saturday UK campaign and encourage people to apply for the Small Biz 100 awards 2015, after her business was chosen as one of the Small Biz 100 last year, which resulted in her and a few other firms taking part in a Christmas market in Downing Street.

The dates, times and venues are listed below if you would like to support the campaign and find out how you can get involved. Representatives from the Federation of Small Businesses will attend and speak at events.
