Malmesbury’s popular weekly Farmers’ and Artisan Market celebrated its first birthday on Friday August 5, with candles and cake.
With the support of stallholders, local residents and visitors from near and far, Discover Malmesbury’s weekly market toasted a year of success.
Ran by Ash Scott and Lisa Gore and with the support of Malmesbury Town Team, the market holds between eight and ten traders at any one time and regularly plays host to the likes of Yara’s Fudge, Severn Bakery, Curds and Whey and Heathrow Owl Rescue.
Gordon MacPherson from Malmesbury Town Team said: “It’s been an incredible first year for the market. We’ve got some great traders who provide an array of quality products and produce on a weekly basis, which really help to make Malmesbury a go-to destination. The market is very much a big part of the town’s ‘Discover Malmesbury’ campaign and the with support of locals and visitors we’ve been able to pull off a fantastic first year for the ‘Discover Malmesbury Farmers’ and Artisan Market’ – Well done to everyone involved!”
The market recently benefited from ten new, branded Discover Malmesbury stalls kindly donated by Malmesbury Town Team, Wiltshire Town Council in conjunction with Malmesbury Area Board and Malmesbury Town Council. The stalls were presented in May of this year as part of an initiative to support local traders and become Discover Malmesbury branded.
The market was initiated by the town team in response to research carried out as part of the Malmesbury Town Centre Action Plan. Research indicated a weekly market would add to the vibrancy of the High Street and Town Centre.
Malmesbury’s Friday Artisan & Farmers’ Market trades every Friday from 9am to 3pm at the Market Cross, just up from the Abbey.
