Devizes and Marlborough to benefit from Giganet’s full fibre

More than 21,500 homes across Marlborough and Devizes will soon have the ability to log on to hyperfast broadband thanks to a £23 million investment by Giganet.

The full fibre network will use 100 per cent fibre optic cables, providing a more reliable connection and faster downloads speeds.

The expansion of Giganet’s network has been backed by £250 million of private investment, £23 million of which has been earmarked specifically for Wiltshire.

The company is advising local communities of some disruption as they begin connecting streets to full fibre services, and is working with town councils and community groups to provide residents with the most up-to-date information.

MCS Utilities are the build partner and will be undertaking the network installation in both areas. The overall project is expected to reach completion in early 2024.

Kevin Barry, Chief Network Build Officer at Giganet, said, “This is an exciting chapter for Giganet as we bring Wiltshire’s smaller communities up to speed with full fibre services. Over the last few years there’s been a surge in demand for faster, more reliable broadband. For us this also means providing customers with an offering that’s grounded in honesty and simplicity – from flexible contracts to no exit fees.

“While there will be some short-term disruption from the build, this will benefit the local area tremendously in the long-term. Large or small, we’re connecting communities and making sure that no one is left behind.”

Councillor Peter Corbett, Devizes Town Mayor, said, “It is fantastic that Giganet is now ready to start delivering its £23 million infrastructure investment programme across our local communities. Not only will this boost connectivity for thousands of homes in the Devizes area but strengthen the area’s digital infrastructure as a whole.”
